Custom Interior Repaint: One Color, Three Sheens, Seamless Contrast in Amherst, NH
This project is a continuation of a home we recently shared, and this phase focused on refreshing an interior room with a thoughtful, detail-driven repaint.
At first glance, the room appears to be painted in a single, cohesive color—and that’s exactly the point. Instead of relying on multiple colors, we created contrast and visual interest through careful sheen selection, allowing architectural details to stand out while keeping the space calm and unified.
What We Did
Custom color application throughout the entire room, including the ceilings
Sheen-based contrast to highlight different surfaces without introducing competing tones
Precision preparation and clean finishing to ensure crisp transitions between surfaces
Each surface was intentionally finished with a different sheen:
Semi-gloss on woodwork to enhance trim details and provide durability in high-touch areas
Eggshell on the walls for a soft, elegant finish that reflects light evenly
Flat on the ceilings to minimize glare and keep the focus on the room itself
The result is a room that feels layered and refined, even though it relies on a single color palette.
Why This Approach Works
Using multiple sheens within the same color family is a subtle but powerful technique. It allows trim, walls, and ceilings to each play their role—adding depth, contrast, and sophistication—without overwhelming the space.
This method is especially effective in rooms where you want a clean, modern look with timeless appeal.
