Fresh Walls, Fresh Start: Wallpaper Removal & Repaint in Mont Vernon, NH

There’s something incredibly rewarding about transforming an outdated room into a clean, modern space—and that’s exactly what I did for a recent interior painting project in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire.

Like many older homes in the area, this one had layers of aging wallpaper that needed to go. While wallpaper can add character, removing it the right way and prepping the walls properly is key to a high-quality finish that lasts.

Step-by-Step Process:

1. Wallpaper Removal
The first step was carefully removing all the existing wallpaper. It takes time and a steady hand to avoid damaging the drywall underneath, but getting it right sets the foundation for everything that follows.

2. Removing Glue Residue
Once the wallpaper was off, I removed all leftover adhesive—an essential step that often gets skipped. Any glue left behind can interfere with paint adhesion and lead to bubbling or peeling later on.

3. Drying Time & Surface Prep
After allowing the walls to fully dry, I applied a skim coat to smooth out any rough patches or surface imperfections. Then, I used a dustless sanding system to prep the walls without creating a mess.

4. Cleaning & Priming
Once prepped, I cleaned the surfaces thoroughly and applied primer to both the walls and trim, creating an even, consistent base for paint.

5. Final Sand, Clean & Paint
A final light sanding and cleaning ensured a perfect surface for the topcoat. Then, I applied premium paint to the ceilings, walls, and trim for a long-lasting, flawless finish.

Closet Transformation – Part of a Larger Interior Project

This project was actually the first phase of a larger interior update in Mont Vernon. As part of the overall refresh, I gutted an old closet, giving it a completely fresh start.

  • Removed all existing interior materials

  • Installed new drywall

  • Taped, mudded, and sanded the seams for a seamless finish

  • Applied primer and two coats of premium paint

What was once a dark, outdated storage space is now a clean, modern closet that blends perfectly with the rest of the home. Stay tuned for more updates from this full-home transformation.
